The Jan Boland Coetzee pays homage to the founder of Vriesenhof and embodies a lifetime of his observation and wisdom accumulated amongst the vines.
The components are vinified separately, and the blend is assembled after 4 months. Merlot (50%), Cabernet Sauvignon (26%) and Cabernet Franc (24%) all from Stellenbosch.
The wine was matured in French oak barrels for 20 months.A combination of 10% new and 2nd /3rd and 4th fill barrels were used.
Bright Ruby in appearance with fresh red cherry aromas, touches of fennel and subtle oak spice on the nose. Ripe Merlot fruit provides rich, rounded mouthfeel, whilst Cabernet Franc contributes spicy aromatic notes.Fine-grained, chalky tannins contributed by Cabernet Sauvignon seamlessly mesh with barrel maturation flavours to provide depth and length to the finish.
