A Wine Rooted in Stellenbosch

The Reserve 2023 captures everything we love about making Cabernet on the foothills of the Helderberg. The aromatics open with bright red cherry fruit, hints of cassis and a touch of cocoa powder. These details are not added through oak or winemaking tricks. They are grown into the grapes through the character of our soils and the way our vineyards are farmed.

On the palate, the wine shows its youth with fine-grained tannins and firm structure. It is balanced, poised and already generous, although time in bottle will bring even more complexity. As it evolves, the tannins will soften and deepen into the luxurious texture that mature Cabernet is known for.

This wine reflects the place it comes from and the care invested in it. It offers purity, restraint and depth in equal measure.

Our viticulturist, Damien Cadle, describes the foundation of the wine simply: “To offer real value, a Reserve wine must start in the vineyard.”

The new Cabernet Sauvignon plantings at Vriesenhof were made with intention. Careful site selection, thoughtful canopy management and a focus on balance in the vineyard have been essential in shaping this release. The result is a wine that does not rely on cellar intervention. It speaks clearly of where it comes from.
